GDE. Absence of employees during community protests
- Published: 22 June 2017 22 June 2017
NAPTOSA (Gauteng) has been informed by members that some principals / managers are instructing staff to apply for Leave Without Pay (LWP) to cover their absence during the recent taxi strike in Gauteng. This instruction is contrary to the GDE Memo signed on 25 May 2017.
Where a GDE employee was absent from work due to community protest or other form of protest action (e.g.taxi strike), the employee should follow the process outlined in paragraph 5.3, which requires the employee to submit an affidavit stating reasons for their absence and reasons beyond their control that led to their absence.
